Sparse vegetation grows on hillsides and is pushing into the flat areas. In other places, low mountains and hills break up the flat landscape. It looks like a frozen lake bed covered with snow. It is perfectly flat and has a thick crust of salty soil. The famous Bonneville Speedway is located in the western portion of the flats, near Wendover. The flats can easily be seen as you drive I-80 between Salt Lake City and Wendover, NV. They cover a large area and have a very unique environment. The Bonneville Salt Flats are found west of the Great Salt Lake, in western Utah. It is located along I-80 near the Utah-Nevada border. With several races and series during the year there is always something to see.The Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the most unique natural features in Utah, stretching over 30,000 acres. This raceway has it all-a Super Oval, Drag Strip and Motocross. Finally, have your group spend an evening at Rocky Mountain Raceway. Experience speed first hand on a rental kart at the Miller Kart Track. It is considered the finest facility of its type in North America. On the way back to Salt Lake from the Bonneville Salt Flats stop off and visit a man-made raceway at Miller Motorsports Park, a state-of-the-art road racing facility for automobiles, motorcycles and karts. Annual speed week takes place in mid-August. Since then the 300, 400, 500 and 600 mile per hour land speed records have been broken. The salt flats were first recognized as a potential raceway in 1896. This tour begins by heading out to the Bonneville Salt Flats which is one of the most unique natural features in Utah, stretching over 30,000 acres.
